If you're holding your wedding reception in a ballroom and are on a tight budget, you may not think you'll be able to afford decorations for the venue. The good news is that you can transform the expansive space into the wedding venue of your dreams using inexpensive and repurposed items.

While they are typically elegant and classy venue spaces, ballrooms aren't known for having a lot of decor details. Many ballrooms feature neutral colors, such as cream and beige, so that people who rent them for special events can put their own personal decor touches in them.

When decorating awedding ballroom on a budget, consider using pieces you already own, or can later reuse, to get the most bang for your buck. Here are some additional wallet-friendly ballroom decorating tips to keep in mind:

1. Enhance Furniture with Textiles

One of the easiest ways to add a glamorous touch to basic furniture pieces is through the use of textiles. For instance, dress up guest dinner tables with either rented or homemade tablecloths in colors that reflect the overall theme of the reception. As an example, choose turquoise and yellow cloths for a tropical-inspired theme, or silver and white for a winter wonderland-inspired space.

In addition to tablecloths, you can also use table runners in a variety of different colors and patterns. Add a personalized touch to each guest's place setting with decorative placemats and/or cloth napkins.

Chair coverings are also available to create a cohesive look. Some coverings simply slip over the chairs, while some tie back into pretty bow designs. If you prefer a romantic, draping appearance, use a flowy tulle fabric to create the effect.

2. Make Inexpensive Table Centerpieces

Table centerpieces typically become focal points of any event space, and you can easily create eye-catching ones that won't put you over your budget. As one idea, fill glass vases with colorful floral bouquets, choosing seasonal blooms to save money. You can take it a step further by using flowers from your own garden if the wedding is during the spring or summer months.

Another option is using realistic-looking faux flowers, which you can find in any color at a local craft shop. In addition to being cheaper, you can also use artificial blooms at home after the event.

Other wallet-friendly table centerpiece ideas include candelabras, potted plants, framed pictures, family heirlooms, and even bowls of vibrantly hued fruit, which guests can snack on throughout the reception.
